Seyed Mehdi Qadimzadeh is the managing director of Printing and Publications Organization which is affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. Having served the country’s printing industry for quite a few years, Qadimzadeh today leads a publication complex that has outgrown all its peers in the country.
Such a job requires him to get regular updates on the progresses made internationally at the field of printing and publication.
A recent initiative to add two sets of Mitsubishi color printing sets to his printing house made us ask Qadimzadeh a few questions on the necessity of modernizing the Iranian printing and publication industry. He believes that a perfect visual representation of commercial and cultural products lay in the hands of printing industry. Excerpts:

Beauty for Higher Sale: At first sight, it is the charming outfit and visual effects of products that appeal to the eyes more than any other characteristic. Attractive packages on the shelves owe their marketing success to the printing industry. All elements of production cycle make effort to live up to high standards and it is the task of printing and publication process to follow suit. Likewise, this industry has set itself a number of standards devised by international organizations such ISO, TUV and VDE.

An attractive representation of commercial and cultural products lay in the hands of printing industry.

From Printing Houses to International Markets: Observing these standards will not only commit producers, but also provide an assurance to customers. However, full compliance with global standards won’t come easy. It demands efficient management, skilled human resources, advanced equipment and fine raw material. All these elements must come together in one product to make it competitive in the market. The significant role played by artists and graphic designers must not be overlooked in the accomplishment of printing industry.
Under the current circumstances of national and international markets, printing industry has an undeniably important responsibility in creating a link between domestic producers and international customers.

Need for Constant Modernization: Although pre-press, press and after-press procedures draw on a long experience in our country, they need to undergo renovation to keep up with the latest achievements made internationally to boost quality.

Application of advanced technology in printing industry is a prerequisite if Iran aims to present its cultural products worldwide at the highest international standards. At Printing and Publications Organization, this necessity is top on our agenda.

Management Beyond Industry: No matter how sophisticated is your printing house, how advanced is your machinery, how big is your purchasing budget and how many are your reputable customers; there must be a strong and smart management to guarantee the success of the business. Do we know how to keep our customers satisfied in the increasingly competitive market? Are we updated about the technical maintenance of machinery? Can we establish a constructive relationship with our personnel? There has to be a round-the-clock management to monitor and streamline all technical, commercial and social affairs within an organization. You can buy a digital printing unit, but you cannot buy a successful management method.
