Designing, engineering and manufacturing power plant and refinery equipment have always drawn the attention of the manufacturers of this important equipment. The bottom line is that these processes require technical know-how, special machinery as well as experienced and efficient human resources. Implementation of national oil, gas, petrochemical and power plant projects in Iran has doubled their significance.
Heat Exchangers and Air Coolers are much-used equipment in oil, gas & petrochemical projects and power plants that absorb millions of dollars in foreign currency each year.
Damafin Thermal Technology Co. manufactures Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers under the license of France’s GEA/Btt. The company’s President Mohammad Reza Safavi Naeini and Chairman of the board Mohammad Kazem tell us more about activities of the industrial unit.

How did this industry start out?

In line with a policy to complete the list of refinery equipment produced in Iran, the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) decided to produce Heat Exchangers. The idea, which later saw Damafin Company founded, was originally part of a development plan for Radiator Iran Company. After conducting initial studies and securing the investment and cooperation of Rena Investment Company and Oil Industry Equipment Company (OIEC), the project went on stream in late 1999.
The company has two plants on the outskirts of Tehran with the area about 16,500 square meters. It also has a five-hectare land in Saveh Industrial Town for expansion purposes.

Please briefly introduce Damafin products.

Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers are widely used in the production of power plant and refinery equipment to reduce the temperature of fluids through air. Among basic components of Air Coolers are: headers, fin tubes, bundles, structures. Fin tubes are the most important part of Air Coolers. In addition, there is another kind of Heat Exchanger, named Shell & Tube, which is also produced by Damafin Thermal Technology Co.

What does stand out in the production of Heat Exchangers?

Production of these products is mainly based on delicate thermal, mechanical and manufacturing engineering calculations as well as high technology and specific machinery. In the production process, observance of international standards such as the API 661 and ASME is a must, which is fortunately performed in Damafin Co.

Would you tell us more about Damafin’s capabilities?

The company has signed an agreement with the GEA/Btt – a French company with years and years of experience in production of Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers. The agreement mainly deals with transfer of technical know-how, purchase and installation of machinery, training, technical cooperation and production of Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers in Iran under the French company’s license, that Damafin has all the hardware and software capabilities for producing Air- Cooled Heat Exchanger utilizing the professional personnel.

Such capabilities should leave you with no concern about receiving future orders, right?

The conditions listed above give our company unique advantages in the Iranian market. However, that does not create a monopoly in taking orders because oil, gas, petrochemical and power companies face no limitations in placing orders with foreign manufacturers and other factors such as timely delivery and prices are important to be chosen in tenders. Our company, just like its rivals overseas, takes part in tenders in an extremely competitive atmosphere. In meeting our clients’ needs three important factors take center stage: High Quality, On-Time Delivery and Reasonable Price.
