Jafar Safari Senjani, 49, is the managing director of Sazeh Gostar Saipa Co. A mechanical engineer by education, he later received an M.Sc. in industrial management to take doctoral courses in strategic management. Having experienced various management capacities in petroleum and automotive industries, Safari is currently chairman of the board in DESCO, INDAMIN and SHAMEKH companies. In the following account, he provides a brief introduction of Sazeh Gostar Saipa Co.:

A Member of Saipa Family: During the past decade, Iran Khodro and Saipa, two large automotive groups, took over 92% of the home market with 61% going to Iran Khodro and 31% to Saipa. The automotive companies currently active under the Saipa group are: Saipa Co. which produces Pride and Xantia passenger cars; Zamyad Co. which manufactures Nissan Z24 pick-ups and IVECO minibuses; Pars Khodro Co. which produces Nissan Patrols, Renault 5’s, Sahra jeeps, and Nissan Maxima passenger cars; and Saipa Diesel Co. which manufactures Volvo N10, N12 and F14 diesel trucks. Saipa Group makes relentless effort to increase its production capacity aspiring to take over 50% of Iranian car market and even penetrate the international markets. Within the Saipa Group, Sazeh Gostar has the task of design, technical support, ordering, producing and procuring parts for Nissan pick-ups, Pride and Xantia passenger cars.

Export of parts, as well as engineering services to other countries and access to world markets are our main concerns.

To Be the First: Sazeh Gostar Saipa Co. (SGSCo.) is a holding company which supervises and collects parts from 480 parts manufacturers and delivers them to the various assembly lines. It was the first engineering design and parts procurement company to be established in Iran in 1985. The leader in domestic auto parts manufacturing, SGSCo. presently provides 63%, by value, of parts for prides and 53% for Nissan Z24s.

Ambitious Growth: SGSCo. has now acquired vast experience and extensive capabilities and facilities. Today, it is planning the production of parts for Xantia and Caravan vehicles, with the help of its parts manufacturers and under the quality control of its well-equipped laboratory. SGSCo. is well prepared to engage in international transactions and penetrate international markets.

Setting Objectives: Consolidating and expanding domestic production which will bring savings in the country’s foreign exchange expenditures for vehicle production is regarded as a worthy national objective. Export of parts, as well as engineering services to other countries and access to world markets are our main concerns. However, such an accomplishment necessitates a market research with the objective of developing exports, especially to European and Arab countries; negotiation and conclusion of agreements with overseas companies.
Acquiring the latest technology, creating a system of collective management based on expert views, making optimal use of occasions to turn threats into opportunities, considering the parts manufacturers as members of one single large family, creating an atmosphere conducive to healthy competition, and finally, bringing about conditions in which innovative powers flourish are some other measures that must be adopted to materialize the goals of Iranian automotive industry.
