Show Must Go on

43.jpg (6637 bytes)

It is very difficult to gather all these people under one roof for a couple of days.” This was what Seyed Abdul-Javad Alavi, director of international relations at Iran’s Institute for International Energy Studies (IIES) told us even before September 11th.
As Middle East Gas Resources and Opportunities went onstage, we were automatically reminded of the saying “Show must go on”. A brief reminder of Alavi’s statements go well with this report:

Oil and gas is a kind of business where technology matters more than capital. Today’s technology has to be developed and upgraded all the time. It is not like 40 years ago when you could apply a technology in oil and gas plants for 20-25 years. Since 1980s, the technology has been upgrading constantly in upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors.

In Iran, we do need the technology and partners to develop our oil and gas resources. So we have to attract some partners. Why in the oil and gas? Because a proper infrastructure exists in this sector. In other industries, infrastructure, market and capital return are not as attractive and prepared as petroleum. I think more changes are needed. We must admit that our capacity is limited and we need more foreign involvement. Without forums and connections, we will be left alone. I believe these forums serve multiple purposes.
