In a recent trip to Isfahan Province, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Khamenei visited the giant Mobarakeh Steel Complex. On this occasion, Esfahan’s Mobarakeh Steel Company Managing Director, Eslamian used a model to elaborate on steel production procedures namely iron ore input, conversion of iron ore into pellets, transformation of pellets into sponge iron, smelting the product in electric arc furnaces, molding the smelted steel as slabs and finally, production of flat steel products. Eslamian added, “There are a number of development projects under way in this complex to create employment opportunities. These projects include: boosting the cold-rolled production capacity from 700,000 tons to 1.5 million tons, establishing a galvanizing line, and manufacturing sheets used in food packaging industry.”

The Supreme Leader then inspected the direct reduction units, electric arc furnaces, slab production units and rolling mills while Mobarakeh managing director and Minister of Industries and Mines Esshaq Jahangiri provided details.

Esfahan’s Mobarakeh Steel Company is the country’s largest industrial complex built and commissioned after the Islamic Revolution. The Complex was inaugurated in 1993. Each year, Mobarakeh Steel manufactures three million tons of various flat steel products, hot-rolled and cold-rolled products in the form of coil and sheet. Once its development project is completed next year, this complex will reach four million tons of annual output.

The products of Mobarakeh Steel Complex are exported to several countries in Europe, North America, Far East, Africa and the Persian Gulf region.
