Sympathies in Practice: Establishment of a specialized hospital and rehabilitation center for children with cancer was always on the Society’s agenda in the past decade. This long-held desire was eventually fulfilled in 1997 when this society purchased a 4,400 square meter land in the northern Tehran district of Darabad. Construction operations of the hospital and rehabilitation complex began in 1999 after consulting engineers finalized the draft plans.
Darabad Hospital and Rehabilitation Complex has 120 rooms each of which accommodates a child and one of his/her parents. The complex has different medical wards such as radiology, CT scan, MRI, radiotherapy, laboratories, physiotherapy, chemotherapy, operating room, swimming pool, hydrotherapy, library, amphitheater, and playgrounds.

Expanding on Services: This society – an absolutely non-governmental charity – also renders other services to both children with cancer and their parents, among them:

- Dispensing advice and information to parents about their children’s disease

- Working closely with doctors and other caretakers offering advice and support for parents to make sure patients receive the best possible care

- Organizing parental relief groups where parents help each other get over their problems

- Increasing national awareness about cancer in children and ways to treat it.
