Alumina’s Awesome Ascend

With Four Production Lines Active, Jajarm Alumina Complex will Soon Achieve Nominal Capacity

Considering Aluminum hydrate and alumina produced from Jajarm bauxite a total of 250,183 tons of aluminum hydrate and 135,757 tons of alumina has been produced in the complex.

With Four Production Lines Active, Jajarm Alumina Complex will Soon Achieve Nominal Capacity.

Background:

Following the implementation of process modification in the tube digestion unit and some other units of Jajarm Alumina Complex, the first digestion line (Line A) for producing alumina from Jajarm bauxite was made operational in April 2003 and production of alumina from Jajarm bauxite officially started on 28 April 2003. Modifications of the second line (Line B) of the complex were complete in late May and production of alumina from the second digestion line started.

The Jajarm Alumina Complex was officially inaugurated on 9 June 2003 in the presence of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Mohammad Khatami, Minister of Industries and Mines, Governor General of the Khorasan province, Chairman of the Board of Directors, officials of Iran Mines and Mineral Industries Development and Renovation Organization, a number of Parliament Members, Managing Director and officials of the Iran Aluminum Company and a group of civil and provincial officials.

At present, the third digestion line (Line C) has been made operational and changes on the fourth line (Line D) are underway. The line would be made operational in the near future and the complex is to hit its nominal capacity by the year-end.

Chart 1: The Amount of Aluminum Hydrate Produced from Jajarm Bauxite in Recent Months

Present Situation:

In view of the completion and inauguration of the third and fourth digestion lines, production of these substances will continue to rise during upcoming months.

During the past months, production of aluminum hydrate and alumina has been on the rise. Production of aluminum hydrate during the months of May through to August stood at 4,702, 11,102, 12,065 and 14,387 tons, respectively, which indicate the rising production of the complex. Production of aluminum hydrate Al(OH)3 and alumina (Al2O3) from Jajarm bauxite stood at 42,256 tons of aluminum hydrate and 24,150 tons of alumina, respectively, by 22 August 2003. In view of the completion and inauguration of the third and fourth digestion lines, production of these substances will continue to rise during upcoming months. Refer to Table 1 for an indication of soaring production trends of the past months.

It must be noted that from March 2002 to May 2003, the complex was producing from gibbsite bauxite while it has switched to Jajarm bauxite since 28 April 2003. Considering aluminum hydrate and alumina produced from Jajarm bauxite (from 28 April to 22 August 2003) a total of 250,183 tons of aluminum hydrate and 135,757 tons of alumina has been produced in the complex. The amount of Jajarm bauxite used since 28 April 2003 is shown in Table 2.
