Situation of Iran and UAE

  • Both countries are located in the same region enjoying cultural, ideological, and geographical commonalities in addition to common economic, trade and commercial interests;

  • Iran followed by the United Arab Emirates have the longest coasts along the Persian Gulf (about 800-1,200 km for Iran and 144 km for UAE);

  • Bilateral relations have been cordial since the independence of UAE and tension has been nonexistent or minimal as is between neighboring countries;

  • Bilateral relations have been sometimes coveted by other countries.

Major features:

  • Major indexes of bilateral relations including political relations, borders, Iranians living in UAE, and volume trade have been remarkable and growing, though not in a balanced way;

  • UAE is blessed with such qualities as propinquity to Iran, climatic conditions matching southern parts of Iran, intensive commercial and trade activities, suitable situation in terms of air transport, suitable customs services and free zones, facilities for economic, trade, and Islamic cultural activities;

  • Iran is the vastest, the most ancient and the most populous country in the region with territorial diversity. It enjoys various resources and has creditable scientific centers.

  • Iran is also among the biggest and most advanced regional countries in terms of industrial capacities, production, agriculture, new technologies, oil, inventions, university graduates, trade, manufacture and weaponry.

What future steps should be taken?

  • Vigilance against ill-wishers;

  • Increasing mutual visits to deepen existing sincere relations and promote better mutual understanding;

  • Keeping indexes of bilateral relations at balanced level;

  • Promoting relations to very high levels;

  • Building and deepening mutual trust;

  • Facilitating travels by both countries’ nationals;

  • Observing ethical standards and brotherly treatment of both countries’ nationals;

  • Mutual assistance in the face of challenges resulting from global financial crisis;

  • Close cooperation in regional and international organizations.
